Description
Trichogramma chilonis is a more versatile egg parasitoid wasp with a broad host range. It parasitizes the eggs of various lepidopteran pests, such as the cotton bollworm (Helicoverpa species) and rice stem borer (Chilo suppressalis). This species is adaptable to different climatic conditions and can be used in various agricultural ecosystems, including cotton, corn, and rice fields. Due to its ability to target multiple pest species, T. chilonis is widely used in integrated pest management (IPM) programs. It is known for its resilience and effectiveness in diverse environments, contributing to sustainable pest control.Application
To apply Trichogramma chilonis, start by using pheromone traps or monitoring tools to check for adult pests in your field. Once you see pest activity, it’s the right time to release the wasps. Use 18 to 30 Trichogramma egg cards per acre by hanging them around the affected area. For better results, repeat the release after 7 to 10 days, especially if pests are still present—releasing twice in a row helps improve effectiveness. Avoid using any chemical pesticides right before or after releasing the egg cards, as they can harm the beneficial wasps.Storage
Store Trichogramma chilonis in its original packaging at a temperature between 4°C and 8°C (39°F – 46°F) to keep the wasps active and healthy. Place the bottles horizontally in a cool, dark area to protect them from heat and light. For the best results, use the product within 7 to 14 days after receiving it.Handling Guidelines
