Welcome to Sustainal Eco Sdn Bhd, the first commercial insectary established in Malaysia, servicing growers nationwide. Through a combination of experience, passion, innovation and ongoing research and development, Sustainal Eco Sdn Bhd has developed rearing techniques for a range of biological control agents which target many of the key pests in horticulture today. Sustainal Eco Sdn Bhd provides viable alternatives to regular broad spectrum insecticide programs in a range of horticultural crops, & have staff to provide the technical backup and support to enable growers to effectively manage Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs on their properties. A key problem at present is resistance of many major pests to pesticides e.g mites, aphids, whiteflies and thrips. Biocontrol and IPM programs are intelligent options to protect crops and reduce pesticide usage.

About Us

HISTORY

Sustainal Eco began operations as Malaysia's first insectary, specializing in breeding natural predators like local Amblyseius bakeri and lady bugs for effective pest control in various crops, including chili and citrus. Over time, we have expanded to offer a diverse range of biocontrol agents targeting pests such as whiteflies, thrips, mites, and aphids in both protected and outdoor crops. Sustainal Eco operates dedicated R&D facilities for on-site rearing and trials, ensuring reliable performance under local conditions. Our experienced IPM consultants provide personalized support, monitoring, and advice to help Malaysian growers manage pest challenges effectively and sustainably.

Coccinella transversalis (Lady Bugs)

Coccinella transversalis is a species of ladybug commonly used as a biological control agent. It primarily targets aphids, scales, mealybugs, and other soft-bodied pests. It is widely distributed in various crops, including vegetables, fruits, and ornamental plants. C. transversalis is an important component of integrated pest management (IPM) systems, as it helps reduce the need for chemical pesticides and promotes sustainable agricultural practices.

Neoseiulus sp (Perdatory Mites)

Neoseiulus species are predatory mites that play a key role in biological pest control, particularly in managing spider mites and other small arthropod pests. These mites are effective in greenhouses, crops, and ornamental plants. They feed on pest mites such as Tetranychus species and can quickly establish themselves in pest-infested areas, reducing the need for chemical pesticides. Neoseiulus mites are highly beneficial for controlling mites, thrips, and other small pests and are widely used in integrated pest management (IPM) systems.

Stratiolaelaps scimitus

Stratiolaelaps scimitus (formerly known as Hypoaspis miles) is a predatory mite commonly used in biological control for managing soil-dwelling pests. It preys on a variety of harmful insects, including root-feeding pests like fungus gnats (Bradysia) and soil-borne stages of thrips, as well as the eggs and larvae of other small arthropods. These mites are particularly effective in greenhouse settings, where they help protect the roots of plants from damage caused by soil-dwelling pests. S. scimitus is well-suited for both ornamental and food crops, and its use in Integrated Pest Management (IPM) systems helps reduce the need for chemical pesticides, promoting sustainable pest control practices. It thrives in moist, well-ventilated environments, where it can rapidly control pest populations in the soil.

Trichogramma chilonis

Trichogramma chilonis is a more versatile egg parasitoid wasp with a broad host range. It parasitizes the eggs of various lepidopteran pests, such as the cotton bollworm (Helicoverpa species) and rice stem borer (Chilo suppressalis). This species is adaptable to different climatic conditions and can be used in various agricultural ecosystems, including cotton, corn, and rice fields. Due to its ability to target multiple pest species, T. chilonis is widely used in integrated pest management (IPM) programs. It is known for its resilience and effectiveness in diverse environments, contributing to sustainable pest control.

Trichogramma japonicum

Trichogramma japonicum is a tiny parasitic wasp, primarily used in the biological control of rice pests. It parasitizes the eggs of various lepidopteran pests, particularly the rice borer (Scirpophaga incertulas). This species is particularly effective in paddy fields, where it plays a crucial role in managing rice pests. T. japonicum has a narrow host range, favoring pests found in rice-growing environments. It thrives in humid, warm conditions typical of rice fields and is more commonly utilized in regions with rice cultivation. Its parasitism helps reduce the reliance on chemical pesticides, promoting sustainable farming practices.

Orius spp

Orius species, also known as minute pirate bugs, are generalist predators that feed on a variety of insect pests, including aphids, whiteflies, thrips, and spider mites. They are highly effective in controlling thrips and other soft-bodied pests in both field crops and greenhouses. Orius is used in biological control programs for IPM, helping to reduce chemical pesticide use. They are particularly valued for their ability to control early pest populations and their adaptability to different crop.

Chrysoperla carnea (Green Lacewing)

Chrysoperla carnea, also known as the green lacewing, is a highly effective predator of soft-bodied insects such as aphids, mealybugs, whiteflies, and scale insects. Both the larvae and adults are voracious feeders, with larvae being especially effective in pest control. C. carnea is commonly used in integrated pest management (IPM) programs, particularly in greenhouses and vegetable crops. This species is environmentally friendly, as it helps reduce the reliance on chemical pesticides, promoting sustainable agriculture and enhancing biodiversity.

Dastarcus helophoroides

Dastarcus helophoroides is a predatory beetle used in biological control, primarily targeting wood-boring beetles and other wood-infesting pests. It is particularly effective in controlling pests like the pine wood nematode (Bursaphelenchus xylophilus) and other insect pests that affect timber and wooden structures. D. helophoroides larvae and adults feed on pest larvae inside the wood, making it useful in forest management and pest control in wooden structures. It is an environmentally friendly alternative to chemical treatments for managing wood-infesting pests.
